Great swimming, lots of shade, and yummy drinks at this pool near Chiang Mai!
We’re surprised not many people have heard about Ang Pao Cafe and Pool. It’s fabulous! Maybe it’s because it’s a bit far from the city, but the drive is worth it! The staff are so lovely and accommodating and have thought of nearly everything that you could want, plus it’s one of the only pools with a water slide in Chiang Mai!

The swimming pool
The pool is a nice size, not too small and not too big. The pool off to the left is the kiddy pool section and my son loved it. At nearly 85 cm tall the water was up to his chest but he loved that he could touch the bottom and had the bars to hold on to. It was the first time you could tell he was comfortable in a swimming pool, so we definitely recommend this pool for toddlers becoming confident in the water!
The main pool has a shallow end, but for some reason the ladder to get out is only in the deep end right in the splash zone of the slide.
The water slide is fabulous and fast! Like, really fast, so be prepared for that the first time you or the kids go down! There weren’t any height or weight restriction signs anywhere so just be careful if you plan on going down it moms and dads (I gave it a shot and it was fun 🙂 )
Water floaties, life jackets and lockers
The owners really thought of it all when they planned to open Ang Pao. There are fun floaties like the Orca whale, rings, flutter boards, beach balls and best of all life jackets! Even better, they have a range of sizes including toddler sized ones – how great is that?! In addition, they are completely free to use. (By the way my daughter is not drowning in the photo below! She’s just come off the slide).
To keep your stuff safe, there are even lockers available. Some still have keys left in them, but eventually I can see that you may need to bring your own locks as kids seems to play with the keys and get lost. However, from the pool nearly all seating areas are visible so you’d probably be fine just keeping an eye on your stuff.
Shade and seating
There is so much shade at this pool! Probably the most shade we’ve seen at any pool in Chiang Mai. Along the entire right side are cafe style tables, while at the far end of the pool there’s a two storey structure with tables to eat food or just hang out and watch the kids swim. Also, there are pool lounge chairs! There are only two though, so you’d have to get here early to grab those. If you really need to cool down you can also sit inside at the cafe in the air conditioning.
Food and drink at Ang Pao Cafe and Pool
Food
They don’t actually make any food in-house, but are more than happy to order food for you from a local Thai restaurant. We paid only 45 baht for each dish (fried rice and crispy pork and kale) and it was delicious.
Ang Pao Cafe does offer snacks such as Mama noodle, chips and other snaky things at very affordable prices. My daughters snack was something ridiculous, like 5 baht!
Drink
Definitely get a smoothie! They’re only 50 baht and the strawberry one has to be in my top three smoothies I’ve ever had. Next time I can’t wait to try their iced coffee! Coffees are priced between 35 – 50 baht, but the one thing you need to be aware of is that they do not serve alcohol at all.
How to get to Ang Pao Cafe and Pool?
Well, Ang Pao Cafe is about 30-40 minutes from the centre of Chiang Mai, so Grab is the easiest solution if you don’t have your own transportation or you could take a taxi as well.
To get here by yourself, turn on that GPS and head to the 118 highway and take the turn off on the left that leads to San Sai. Follow this road straight on until your GPS friend says “turn right.”
