Which vaccinations should you and the kids get before coming to Thailand?
Please speak with your local primary doctor or travel clinic to discuss the benefits of getting vaccinations. The types of recommended vaccinations will depend on your length of stay. If you are planning on a short visit, then you may not need some of the vaccines. If your family is planning on living in Chiang Mai for an extended period, then it is best to get the doctor recommended vaccinations.
Some commonly recommended vaccinations are:
- Hepatitis A
- Hepatitis B
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR)
- Japanese Encephalitis
- Typhoid
- Meningitis
- Tetanus
You and your children may have received some of these during childhood in your home country. Please consult your doctor to check your family’s medical history before you make an informed decision about vaccinations.
Can you get vaccinations in Chiang Mai?
Yes, but they are not covered by health insurance like they may be in your home country. If your country has public health care such as the NHS, check to see if vaccines are completely covered. Otherwise, head over to any of the local clinics or hospitals and they will take great care of your family.
How much do vaccines cost in Chiang Mai?
That depends on the hospital and the type of vaccine. In our experience we’ve paid anywhere between 600 baht to 6,000 baht per shot. Inquire with the hospitals to find out costs.
The consensus is that it is MUCH CHEAPER to get your vaccines here if you can. Each hospital offers all the vaccines you need, but charge different prices.
