 1. Block and PlayÂ
Have you heard about Block and Play yet?!
Located on Mahidol Road heading towards Airport Plaza, Block and Play provides the perfect environment for kids to be creative and imaginative and for parents to relax.
Block and Play offers two neighbouring solutions to the problem of what to do with your kids after a long day or on weekends? They have a restaurant (which serves incredible portion sizes and reasonably priced delicious food) that has an indoor play area AND they have a separate indoor creative building, play, puzzle zone right next door!
Just had to post this waffle breakfast…. it was SO good! Block and Play is also a great place for breakfast with the family.Â
The play area to Block and Play hosts so many options of play for all ages. You name it, they probably have it. What I really liked is their selection of family board games meaning the whole family could play favourites without having to purchase the set.
The BEST part is…. the staff will look after your children for you! It’s true! And the staff are very competent lovely people and if you stay next door at the cafe, you’re only a few meters away. This service is built into the price to play.
Parking is available down the soi with designated parking spots.

 2. Hummus Chiang Mai
This brand new restaurant located smack downtown near Thapae Gate has been the talk of Chiang Mai lately. It’s vegan friendly, vegetarian friendly, and best of all, family friendly! Hummus restaurant is also pet friendly, as pets are part of the family too, right?!
Hummus Chiang Mai opens for lunch at 12 pm and has both outdoor and indoor seating areas. The indoor seating looks quite nice, but the issue with sitting inside, is that you can’t see the play room.
That’s right, there’s a restaurant in Chiang Mai that has an entire play room! It’s its own stand alone space with a personal air conditioner (and I imagine they will get an air purifier for the smokey season), the floors are covered in soft play mats, and there are plenty of toys for kids to play with. They’ve got giant Lego’s, colouring, toy cars, and more packed inside tubs of toys.
Hummus’ play room is great for babies up to likely age 8. The doors that face the outdoor eating area are glass, so you can always see that your kids are up to and call them over to eat when the food arrives.
Parking at Hummus is where you’re going to have some trouble. It’s located down a narrow soi, just wide enough for motorbikes. If you’re very lucky, you may find car parking on the main street, which is the moat, or down a nearby road. Do not park in the temple next door as we did – we got a talking to by the monks! Oops.
Due to the lack of parking, the best option to get to Hummus would be to Grab it.

 3. Street Pizza and The Wine House
Street Pizza is one of the very few family friendly restaurants downtown Chiang Mai. It also happens to be a fabulous date night spot too!
It’s popular restaurant located on the second floor of a corner building with a European style balcony to people watch from while you eat. There is also usually live music to enjoy your incredible food. Seems everyone recommends their pastas and pizzas.
While you are used to reaching for the tablet or other device to quiet the kids, try the play room instead! Street Pizza aims to be a family friendly restaurant and has a kids zone to keep them occupied.
Another reason this is popular restaurant in Chiang Mai with families, is because it has high chairs! Learn more about other places with high chairs in our post about Restaurants with High Chairs in Chiang Mai.Â
For parking you are probably better off to Grab here. Finding parking downtown is a luck of the draw, but possible! You may have to walk a ways from the car to the restaurant though.
