Find a place in Chiang Mai where the kids can play while you eat at these great restaurants with outdoor playgrounds
We know kids dread going to fancy restaurants, and let’s be honest, we’re a bit nervous about whether they’ll behave or not. Why not take the anxiety away and go to one of the many family friendly restaurants in Chiang Mai with a playground? These restaurants happen to have space for them to play – outside!

You can now have time for that conversation you’ve been waiting days to have, while the kids are within eyesight playing happily. If you’ve got little ones, make sure to see if the restaurant has high chairs.

Pan’s Farm : แบ่งปันฟาร์ม Playground
Located up in Doi Saket, is Doi Saket’s answer to Ginger Farm. Along with a natural materials playground, they also offer very similar farm experiences such as collecting hen eggs, arts and crafts, and meeting other farm animals.
The play area is mostly shaded as well which is nice! This means kids can play outside for longer. There is a café and restaurant as well next to the play area. It’s worth checking out if you’re in Doi Saket!

Namthoeng Cafe and Restaurant
If you live the south side of the city, Namthoeng is a good spot to bring the kids for lunch or dinner right alongside the Ping River. There are often other families there so the kids will have others to play with while you enjoy a meal or drinks. There is also a giant dinosaur sculpture, cute teepees for kids to sit in and floating hammocks. It’s a lovely spot to sit by the river.

Chada Cafe and Restaurant
This is our new favourite place! Open for years, Chada Cafe has redesigned to be VERY kid friendly. It’s a mix of a farm, playground, and live entertainment zone. They have adorable sheep which the kids can bottle feed and a collection of rare birds and ostriches. The play area has a large sandpit and an old construction steam roller kids can climb on. There are even swings too!

Chamcha Cafe Doi Kham
This newly opened (October 2019) cafe has been the talk of Chiang Mai! Everyone seems to be posting about it, and it deserves to be shared! This family friendly cafe in Chiang Mai has so much to offer. It’s even built in the fashion of a tree house with so many levels to explore. You’ll have to return again and again to enjoy what each section has to offer.

Baan Suan Kafe Doi Kham
Nestled in the base of Doi Suthep, just past Wat Temple Phra That Doi Kham, is Baan Suan Kafe. It serves up great coffee and affordable meals all in a beautiful jungle setting. They have a small wooden playground with a rope bridge and at the back of the restaurant. Baan Suan serves breakfast and lunch daily, and dinner only on Thursdays.

Ginger Farm
Out in an area called Thawongtan, is Ginger! It’s a very popular place for families, both local and foreign, with its amazing farm setting. The kids will love jumping into hay piles, sliding down a mudslide, and playing in the sandboxes. They can even go for a walk around the rice paddies. For parents, there are both indoor and outdoor seating areas, although it’s much easier to keep track of the kids from outside.

Hello Solao
Serving mostly Northern Thai food, is Hello Solao! Here you can try the many different types of som tam as well as the delicious chicken wings and enjoy some parent time while the kids play They have a small metal playground structure near the front of the restaurant. It’s just enough to keep the kids at bay.

Viva Pizza
This amazing Italian restaurant can be found out of town down the Canal Rd (Road 121). It is run by a family who have children of their own, so they are well aware of children’s needs when out dining! They have a small metal playground structure in the front yard of the restaurant to keep the kids occupied while you catch up over a glass of wine or two.

Nics Restaurant and Playground
Another very popular place is Nics! The playground is made out of sustainable bamboo in the theme of a pirate ship. The playground has a one-story slide, swings, a sandbox area, an enormous trampoline, and even a small football (soccer) pitch! Located south of the city in Hang Dong, this is a parent’s and kid’s paradise.

The Barn Steakhouse at Hidden Village
Speaking of dinosaurs, this steakhouse is located inside the Hidden Village – Chiang Mai’s very own dinosaur park. Accessible with admission to the park, is the restaurant and the adjacent playground. The entire structure is made of wood and reused tires. It’s got a sandy bottom and a trampoline too!

Cup Fine Day
A family favourite among locals and expats, is Cup Fine Day. It’s located along the way to Baan Suan Kafe and caters specifically to little ones. Toddlers and kids up to age 5 love the play area with its rope climbing wall, trampoline, swinging chairs, sand box, and playground structures designed for younger ones.

Triplets Eat & Play
Designed for their actual triplets, Triplets has a large covered sustainable bamboo play structure. It’s got a sandy bottom so kids can play with sand toys. Older kids will enjoy bouncing on the large trampoline or shooting hoops and everyone can enjoy a lie down in one of the hammocks.

Located in V Community, LumDee is a popular Thai restaurant with a huge long slide, a large green grassy area, and little kid friendly playground. The outdoor seating areas are in clear view of the play areas so you can comfortably eat and keep an eye on the kids while you eat.
