Located just south of Chiang Mai, this little water park is perfect for kids!
The Sun Water Park is located in Lamphun, approximately a 45 minute drive from Chiang Mai. It’s an easy drive and does NOT have dual pricing! In fact, it’s really, really affordable to spend a day here.

Getting to The Sun Water Park
We’re starting off with how to get there because people have had issues with that in the past. Their Facebook page map was wrong for a long time (it’s now correct) and just in case you should look it up on Google Maps. You can search for The Sun Water Park or สวนน้ำ The Sun and it will come up correctly. The drive is straight along the superhighway 11, take a left at the 2001 and then a right and you’re there!
Are you sure this is the right place?
Is the question you will be asking yourself when you get there. Why? Because it looks abandoned! Everything appears run down (my photo looks waaay nicer than it actually is). It’s creepy looking. You will literally feel like you are in some sort of post zombie apocalypse. But, yes. Yes you are in the correct place. Not to fear! Once you are inside the actual water park, it’s like night and day. The water park is lovely!
You will then likely be greeted by a rather unexcited person (again, don’t be put off) and pointed towards the office to pay. From here, you walk up a pathway lined with shuttered shops. This place clearly once had in mind having a local Disney World vibe. Towards the end of this pathway some shops will be open showing you signs of life.
There will also be really old decerped looking carnival rides including a Ferris wheel (of death). This marks the end of the zombie land and the beginning of water park fun!
The waterpark
Once you see the blue water, you will feel a huge sigh of relief. It’s real! You made it!
There are two sections to The Sun Water Park. The section with the mushrooms is the kiddy pool area and the section to the right is the big kids area where the water is deeper. This second section is actually really big and wraps around much like a lazy river would with slides on both sides.
The younger kids’ pool is shallow with showering water coming from the mushrooms and lollipops and two wide and fun slides. Parents can sit in the shaded area to the left where there are tables and a place to hang out.
There are two of these slides at either end to each other. Kids can control their speed going as fast or slow as they like into pretty shallow water. I’d say three years old and up can go down independently. What’s fun is that up to four kids can race down at the same time!
Across from the mushroom area is one of the bigger kid slides. Warning, this slide isn’t exactly safe. It goes into water that is too shallow so larger kids and older kids really shouldn’t go on it! Children 4-6 who are small in size could probably go down fine, just be sure to catch them!
Beyond that slide you can see the covered shaded area. This is typically a haven for parents who want to keep an eye on the older kids while in the water. It’s also an appreciated reprieve from the sun. It gets really hot here!
In the distance, you can see two waterslides. Unfortunately you cannot see them from the seating area near the mushroom section. To the right of the slides are little open air huts where you could sit in the shade to watch kids sliding or playing here. Alternatively if you are concerned, you could stand on the middle island thing or be in the water too!
So these slides are FAST! Like, lightening fast. I’ve never been on such fast slides in my life and I loved it! The kids LOVED it! But it’s scary. These are not for the faint of heart. You will fly off of them once you get to the end. Large adults should not go on these slides. You could… but maybe watch a few others try it first?
The slides are made out of concrete so they are also a bit bumpy. Nothing painful, just bumpy. These slides are safe to land in the water. The depth is just fine here.
When (or if) you go down, make sure you lie down in proper waterslide position – lie down flat, legs straight, arms crossed over chest (like a vampire asleep in their coffin). That way any potential injuries are limited.
The park also has floaties and life jackets for rent if you need them!
Food and drink
Well, there isn’t really anything other than snacks to buy here at the moment. There used to be restaurants, but those have since moved out. There are three or four little mini-mart type shops that sell beer, other drinks, snacks, and BBQ goodies. It’s all very reasonably priced. You can also bring in your own food and drinks as long as you are not obvious about it.
Is it safe?
The bottom of the pool is sealed and smooth. The depths are properly proportioned to heights, with the exception of that one slide. Yes, the yellow slides are bumpy and fast, but as long as you take the proper position and are not too large in weight or size, they can be lots of fun!
The safest spots to be would be swimming around the kiddy section or around the lazy river type part.
