What’s so great about Papai Country Lodge family resort in Chiang Mai?
We love this place! We’ve stayed here twice and recommended it to others quite a few times. Located not too far from the city in Doi Saket region, you still feel like you are miles away which allows you to really relax. Papai Country Lodge is owned and operated by a local family who are absolutely lovely and so accommodating. Anything you need and they are there for you!
Lush nature resort
The grounds are massive and beautiful. You can expect lush greenery year round along with beautiful flowers and the sounds of nature. There are also pathways that go round the entire grounds which are perfect for riding a bicycle or scooter around. We bring our daughter’s bike so that if she wants to, she can tour around.
There’s even a nice waterfall feature near the main hotel room section.
Bicycles are free!
Not only can you ride bicycles within the resort itself, but you are encouraged to ride around the surrounding area which is beautiful. There are a couple sites to see nearby, but we have never made it out to them. Bicycles are free with your stay! What’s great is they have every size of bike from giant toddler sized to big kid to teen and adult sized. Everyone can ride at the same time!
Playground fun
Papai Country Lodge has a great little playground. It’s got something for all ages. From push riding toys, to slides, and the trampoline, there’s quite a bit to do. We really loved the boxing kit though! Lot’s of fun for older kids and teenagers with that!
The only bugger is that because it’s not covered, the metal structures get extremely hot, so you can only enjoy the playground in the mornings or late afternoons or evenings. Mostly that’s fine though because everyone will be distracted and having fun in the swimming pool!
The swimming pool
The pool is just beautiful. It’s got a shallow and deep end along with a Jacuzzi! There’s even a waterfall feature that you can swim under. Our favourite feature for resorts with pools, and a must have with kids, are pool towels. Pool towels available daily from the pool cabana. In addition there are poolside loungers with shade.
When the owner heard we were coming, she went out and purchased some pool toys; one specifically for our one and a half year old. Such a nice thing to do! ‘Papai feels like home’ is exactly what they try to do – make you feel like family! The older girls loved floating around on and jumping into the other pool toys.
Family rooms and villas
Here is one of the villas that you can stay in. It comes with a mini indoor/outdoor kitchen with kitchen supplies. All you need to do is bring the fixings! These would be good for a family size of 3-4 people and ensure privacy and a feel of luxury surrounded by nature.
If you stay in the deluxe or superior rooms, you’ll be situated in the two story apartment looking hotel section. The rooms are HUGE! The balcony alone is about half the size of a regular small hotel room and overlooks a stream and jungle. It makes for a lovely spot for a morning coffee which you can order to your room.
The room also has lots of storage space, a fridge and a TV. The washrooms are also nice with some rooms including a bathtub. It’s best to request a room with a bathtub if you’d like one, and what kid doesn’t like a good tub?!
Room prices
As with most hotels and resorts in Thailand, the prices change with the seasons. It’s best to research prices for Papai Country Lodge here or contact them directly.
The restaurant and food
For eating you have a choice of sitting indoors or outdoors. The outside seating overlooks a natural stream and has a jungle feel to it. Inside is quite nice as well. There’s a piano the kids are welcome to play and even karaoke at night if you want!
The food was not as good as we remembered it, but we did go during a national holiday when the regular chefs go home to see family. It was probably that reason for the lack lustre food this time, as during our previous visit we couldn’t get enough of it! If you need snacks, we suggest you bring some as there is no 7-eleven or other local shops nearby.
