Namthoeng Cafe is the most kid friendly restaurant along the Ping River
Follow the Ping River south past the second ring road (the 121) to let the kids hang out at this local favourite café and restaurant. Namthoeng Cafe was designed with parents in mind! There is plenty to keep younger kids occupied while parents can enjoy themselves.
Namthoeng Cafe is located right next to the river with some lovely views and is a nice sunset vantage point where you can see the sky and river reflect with colour.

The most family friendly cafe south of Chiang Mai
Giant dinosaurs! Roar!
Kids immediately know this is a place for them to be kids as soon as they see the enormous Plesiosaur and what I believe is supposed to be a yellow panda bear. But this isn’t the only reason to bring the kids here!
The Playground
Namthoeng Cafe also has a playground! It seems to get repositioned often and they keep adding elements to it. The latest addition has been cover so that it is mostly in the shade. There are slides, swings, rocking horses and more.
Seating
Even the seating area is set up to be very kid friendly. The kids can be off in their own little teepee world. They can have their own kids’ area and kids’ table while you enjoy the scenery nearby. The grassy area is also great for little ones learning to walk or toddlers toddling around.
Older children, teenagers and adults may also enjoy sitting in the hammocks that overhang the Ping riverbed. It’s really hot during the day, making the hammocks pretty much unusable until dusk but luckily Namthoeng is open late (outside of Covid restrictions).
Food and Drinks
The food has really evolved since the restaurant first opened. There is a nice mix of Thai and Western food at mid-range prices. For drinks they offer the usual fair.

If you live the south side of the city, Namthoeng is a good spot to bring the kids for lunch or dinner. There are often other families there so the kids will have others to play with while you enjoy a meal or drinks.
