The farm has a beautiful restaurant and lots of activities for kids. It offers so much for all ages and they’re always making improvements as every time we go back, there’s something new!
Set among a working rice paddy farm just 20 minutes from downtown, you’ll feel completely removed from the madness of the touristy old city or your busy work life! Visiting the farm is a real adventure for children and an opportunity to relax for parents. The staff are so hands on and attentive, that you can get a few precious moments to yourself! Ginger Farm is a family paradise!

Kids activities at Ginger Farm
Come to Ginger Farm for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, spend a half-day or even the whole day at the farm. There are so many things for kids to do at this Chiang Mai gem you’ll find yourselves returning again and again.
Explore the farm
Not only is the setting of the restaurant itself gorgeous, the surrounding farm provides a great way to introduce kids to nature. Take a stroll through the rice paddy fields and vegetable gardens looking for fresh water crabs along the way. Sometimes, if you inquire when the staff aren’t too busy, you may be able to take the kids to the hen coop. Here, you can collect your very own farm fresh eggs from right under the chicken! How cool is that?!
Slide down the one and only mudslide in Chiang Mai!
The most exciting thing though has to be the mudslide! It will be the highlight of your day and will probably become your kid’s favourite thing to do in Chiang Mai. With help from staff, children of all ages can slide to their hearts content. The mudslide is open daily from 4 pm – 5 pm and on weekends they have an extra time slot from 11 am – 12 pm. The cost is 90 baht per person and Ginger asks that you bring a set of old clothes or swim outfits to wear. They have showers on site, but you may want to bring your own soap and towel if you have plans to go out afterwards.
Arts and crafts
Now maybe getting all muddy isn’t your child’s thing. Not to worry, because there’s lots more to see and do. At the art station, children and parents can choose from a variety of activities. You can decorate your very own fan (150 baht), paint a Lanna Thai style umbrella, (250 baht) or decorate a reusable bag made from natural products (250 baht). All supplies are available, and unlike other places, there’s no time limit. Take your time creating and let imaginations come alive at Ginger Farm.
Fun at the farm
Other activities involve learning about plants. Kids can learn about farming and take their very own plant home in a jar (290 baht). If you are brave enough, you and the kids can get up close and personal with a buffalo! Well, a water buffalo actually. He’s a big friendly beast and you can give the big fellow a bath (90 baht)! To really get to know how the farm works, inquire about the farm trip. It’s 290 baht per person and you’ll be taken on a personalized tour of Ginger Farm.
Kids’ workshops at the farm
Ginger Farm usually offers half day or full day workshop programs. Sometimes these are tailor made, especially if you are planning on coming with a large group. Many local schools arrange the perfect field trip in Chiang Mai with Ginger Farm. If your child(ren) attend school here in Chiang Mai, let your school know it’s an option. The kids will love it! The workshops typically involve learning about how to plant and harvest rice, or there are cooking classes, learning how to take care of farm animals, art classes, and sometimes even yoga for kids.

Meet the farm animals
Over the years Ginger has acquired many animals. Some have even been rescued! Your family will get to meet farm animals such as ducks, rabbits, goats, cows, buffalo, geese, chickens and a turkey. In addition to regular farm animals, they have a pretty great exotic bird collection. You’ll see peacocks, cockatoos, colourful parrots and more up close. The parrots are funny as they try to talk with you.
Check out the playground
The fun never stops at Ginger Farm! The playground is farm inspired with lots of space for children to run around. There’s a giant hay stack pile for kids to clamour up and down and throw themselves into and a rope climber. Closer to the restaurant there are two sandbox play areas with toys and two bamboo swings. For added fun, there are bubbles for sale (30 baht) – who doesn’t love bubbles?!
Food and drink
With all these activities you’ll work up an appetite. The food is delicious and there are many seating areas including an air conditioned upper level. Their menu offers mostly Thai food with some Western dishes. All of their meals are freshly made using ingredients from the farm whenever possible and they have some of the best desserts in Chiang Mai.
For drinks, they’ve got tea and coffee (hot or cold), fresh fruit smoothies, freshly squeezed juices and Thai beers. No wine unfortunately!
Kids Meals
These have got to be the most well thought out kids’ meals in Chiang Mai. Everything down to the cutlery is child friendly. Each meal is perfectly sized resulting in little waste, and comes with vegetables, a small dessert and a fresh juice. All children’s meals are reasonably priced at around 150 baht.
Family breakfast
Our friends kept telling us to try breakfast at Ginger. We were already very familiar with how good the lunches and dinners there were, so we gave it a try. It was a wonderful way to start the day, out in nature, giving the kids a chance to run around. All the breakfasts come with a free tea or coffee, but are priced quite high for what you get. Try the farmhouse eggs if you go as they give you the most bang for your buck.
Shop
Ginger Farm also manufactures unique one of a kind goods. You can’t get any of the amazing gifts anywhere else in Thailand! Get yourself something so cool that everyone will be asking you “where did you get that?!” From cool bags, to stuffed animals, dishes and cutlery, farm fresh jams and other food goodies, you’ll find it hard not to leave with only one thing.
