Designed in the style of a tree house, Chamcha Cafe satisfies the kid in you as you are eager to explore every level and see every nook and cranny the cafe has to offer.
The family friendly cafe in Chiang Mai has been purposely built with nature in mind. Anywhere you sit, you are surrounded by beautiful trees and landscaped flowers. It’s easy to relax here. A great family friendly place to hang out with kids in Chiang Mai
One of the many amazing features about Chamcha Cafe is that they open early! For parents, this is the absolute best, because we are always looking for something, anything, that is open before 9 am. If you’re anything like me, by 9 am you feel like you’ve already lived an entire day and kids have been bouncing off the walls since 5.
Chamcha Cafe open at 7 am on weekends. That’s right! You can get the kids out of the house and have a strong coffee in your hands by 7 in the morning! During the weekdays it opens at 8 am.

Reasons why Chamcha Cafe Chiang Mai is a great place to visit with or without kids
Beautiful gardens and surroundings
As soon as you enter the grounds to the cafe you can see how much time and effort the owners have invested. There are beautiful garden pathways with plans for more landscaping. The view of the mountain in the background is just stunning on a clear day, especially if you sit on the top level of the cafe.
Ride the swing!
Near the hostess booth is one of many opportunities for photo ops! The swing is very popular and I bet more adults than children will end up sitting in it getting those Instragram shots. Not to worry as around the back is the real playground for the kids.
Relax or feed the fish
As you pass the hostess booth, you’ll see a hanging swing chair and a toy rocking horse toy. These are placed perfectly for us parents, who can relax in the chair while the kids rock away, or feed the fish! There are quite a few hungry koi fish mouths to feed. These fish must have holes in their stomachs because they can keep eating forever.
Fish food costs a reasonable 20 baht per bag. Simply put 20 baht in the box as you take each bag of food.
Hang around in a floating hammock
Up in the ‘treehouse’ section of Cham Cha Cafe, are nets that you can hang out on. They are fairly new additions and are sturdy! Probably best to avoid though if you’re afraid of heights!
Family photo opportunities
If that’s not your thing, there are lots of other quirky and fun places to enjoy. The ‘egg’ chair is one where you could snap some lovely photos of the kids!
Another great spot is the collectable yellow car on the front lawn. Kids sure love to pretend to drive it and hang out in it. Some great photos can be had here.
The playground at Chamcha Cafe Chiang Mai
Out the back side of Chamcha Cafe is the sandy bottom playground.
The playground has undergone a fabulous renovation and gone from two rather simple play structures to practically a multi-level playground that all ages can enjoy. They’ve still kept the train and the trampoline and added swings and more!
There are also sand piles set up and beach toys around so kids can build sand castles or whatever they delight in. Chamcha Cafe also provides shade umbrellas. The best part is you can move them around to where ever they are needed to ensure your little ones don’t get too much sun! Although the new playground structure provides plenty of cover.
Arts and crafts
With the recent renovation, Cham Cha has made itself even more child-friendly with the addition of a drawing station. It’s located on the upper level of the playground area and is covered from the sun.
What kind of food do they have at Chamcha Cafe?
Food
The food available is mostly the usual Thai fare, with the exception of French fries, steak (although small portion) and fried chicken wings. The majority of their offerings are actually desserts and they look really yummy!
Drink
Drinks are where Chamcha Cafe really shines! They make incredible coffees, smoothies, juices and cold teas. Each and every drink is styled to perfection. To save on plastic, you can request a reusable cup or glass and if you pay 2 baht extra, instead of receiving a plastic straw, they will serve your drink with a biodegradable wheat straw! How thoughtful is that?!
Ride a horse in Chiang Mai
Very recently Chamcha Cafe began offering horse rides. These are not ponies, so keep that in mind! The horse is huge! Before you ride, please ensure they are taking safety seriously. From the photos I’ve seen, it doesn’t look like the managers have thought about this too much – everyone should be wearing a helmet when they ride a horse! So please be wary if you allow your child(ren) to try to ride.
To ride the horse no doubt costs money (horses are really expensive to feed!), and I believe the cost is around 40 baht per ride. A sign indicates it is free to ride the horse with a receipt of 300 baht or more.
The seating
Chamcha Cafe is designed in the style of a tree house where there are multi-levels connected by ‘hanging’ walkways and bridges. The majority of the cafe is open air allowing you to relax in nature. On the highest level you will enjoy the best views of the surrounding area and this section has a few hanging cocoon chairs to sit in and swing around.
They also have highchairs! These are what I call ‘the good kind’ because you can strap your infant or toddler in and serve them food on the attached tray.
There is one indoor air conditioned area, but if you have children, you’ll likely be on the first level watching the children play or feed the fish. No matter where you end up sitting, Chamcha Cafe is a beautiful and relaxing space to be in Chiang Mai.
How to get to Chamcha Cafe Chiang Mai?
Chamcha Cafe is located in the foothills of Doi Kham a short drive past Baan Suan Kafe. Without having your own transportation, Grab is the easiest solution to get here and get back home again. You you could also songtaew it or take a taxi as well.
In order to drive here on your own, head south either down Canal Road (the 121) or Hang Dong Road (the 108) and follow the signs for The Night Safari. Don’t actually drive to the safari! Take the last exit off the round-about and follow that road all the way to a T-junction. From here, turn left and follow the clearly marked signs!
Parking is just to the left before the cafe, or if you continue past the first parking lot, there is more just past the cafe.
