Dantewada Angel Land in Chiang Mai
Angel Land Chiang Mai or แดนเทวดา should really be called Waterfall Land! This attraction is full of waterfalls, rivers, flower fields, a cave and a number of different cafes to enjoy. While it is manmade, all features have been made to look as realistic as possible so they don’t distract from the experience.
What’s really cool about Angel Land is that most of it is wheelchair accessible and they even provide wheelchairs for day use!
Dantewada Angel Land Chiang Mai – Waterfalls, flower fields, photo ops, oh my!
I just have to warn you that this will be a photo heavy post. Angel Land just has SO many amazing photo opportunities!
We chose the weekend to check out Angel Land which means it took about an hour to drive there. We followed the small road until we saw Angel Land on our right. It was obvious we were nearly there as the road had throngs of people walking along towards the entrance.
Turns out parking is available a few dozen metres past the entrance and then you walk back to get in.
At the entrance is a small Thai market filled with drink, trinket, fruit, and food stands. These appear to be for when you exit Angel Land as opposed to go in as you are not allowed to bring any outside food or drink in. And trust me, you will be thirsty and possibly hungry by the time you leave so it’s great that it’s there!
There was a lineup to enter when we went. We also happened to be the only visible expats there! Seems only Thai’s know about this place (for now!)
Upon entrance a small entrance fee is due. It is 60 baht per person aged 4 and up. Possibly aged 60 and over are also free, which is nice! The entrance fee is well worth it as this place is HUGE! We ended up staying for about 3 hours and would’ve stayed longer had the kids not got antsy.
As you enter you shown that Angel Land is divided into zones. The way it is set up is that you naturally end up walking around each zone in a clockwise fashion. From the entrance can either go to the main restaurant or walk around it to the first waterfall feature. It is of course, stunning!
Following this path leads you in to a split in the path. We suggest heading left into the mysterious mist ‘forest’!
When the mist is thick you can literally only see a couple feet in front of you, so some children may find this scary, but it’s lots of fun because- what’s around the corner?!
It turns out there’s a cave! It’s got stalactites, dripping water, and even a Buddha shrine statue. The cave looks pretty realistic too.
After a visit to the cave, head back through the mist ‘forest’ back out into the clear skies and blue lagoon waters of the next waterfall feature.
This one is particularly beautiful and the blue waters are so enticing you’ll find yourself, or your children, wanting to jump in! Unfortunately, there are no opportunities to swim here yet they should really consider that option.
Continuing along you’ll end up at the washrooms which are really nice, and onto the giant boulder and waterfall mountain zone.
Personally, this was my favourite part! It felt a bit like a Universal Studios or Disneyland experience. You get to step over floating stepping stones in the water and enter the waterfall! You then go inside the waterfall and walk in behind it continuing to traverse over floating rocks.
Another reason this was my fabourite spot was that you get cooled off. It is hot outside and this cool and wet reprieve was exactly what was needed.
The kids of course, though the boulders were the coolest thing about this place and spent ages climbing up them and sliding down.
As you continue around to the next zone, the beautiful scenery and landscaping of the gardens becomes evident.
There are plenty of cute spots purposefully set up for photos as you walk around too.
Eventually to the right is a Japanese inspired garden that you enter through shaded knarly trees.
This will take you past another cafe towards the largest waterfall feature, which has another cafe inside of it. You can climb up and into the waterfall! People can peer out the front of it and have their photos taken and get a nice view of Angel Land.
There’s also a gorgeous flower field which are all the rage right now to take photos in.
After this there’s really only one more thing to do, which is to climb up onto the platform for you guessed it, more photos! The moon chairs are pretty cool though.
From here you can do it all again if you wish or make your way out to the market for a refreshing treat.
When is the best time to go to Angel Land แดนเทวดา?
This is a bit tricky as the majority of Angel Land is outside. Rainy season (approximately July-Oct) would be an obvious time not to go, and yet it doesn’t rain every day nor does it rain all the time. Hot season (approximately Mar-June) would be another one to question whether to go or not, but then again you could bring a sun umbrella or it may be a cooler day.
So as long as you have your weather app activated, any time seems great!
What kind of food do they have at Angel Land?
I have to laugh at this memory! The food comes in these amazing all in one pot contraption. Myself and my friend spent ages looking like morons trying to figure out how to open it until a lovely spectator had had enough and came to rescue and tutor us in ‘the way’.
So when the kids’ pot contraptions arrived, we enjoyed watching them puzzle it out. Eventually we too had to step in and help! It’s actually quite an easy trick to open it but half the fun will be figuring it out!
The food itself was mostly good. Medium prices and nice portion sizes. We made the mistake of ordering tomato pasta which means Ketchup sauce… so avoid that unless you like it.
Drinks were superb though and not overly over priced.
What was also great was that they had these rocking toys for little ones to keep busy with! This was perfect as the food did take a while to arrive and we didn’t want him wandering around outside by the water with the big kids.
How to get to Angel Land แดนเทวดา?
Due to its distance from Chiang Mai, it may not be possible to get a Grab (although of course try!) to Angel Land if you do not have your own car. The next easiest solution for you or take a taxi. Following that (and potentially cheaper in some cases) would be to hire a driver for the day.
To get here by yourself, drive north up the 107. You will pass the turn off to Pai and keep going nearly to the turn off to Mae Ngat Dam. Turn left where your GPS pings you to. The only landmark nearby is a police station.
We hope you have a great time like we did at Angel Land Chiang Mai!
