Find out where to ride horses in Chiang Mai
From horse riding schools, to riding classes, to equestrian clubs, and to horse trail riding, we’ve got it all!
Horse ranches seem to be popping up all around the city – find out where you can get in the saddle! Each one offers something a bit different from the other so it’s best to check out more than one before you make a final decision about which horse riding club to choose in Chiang Mai.
You’ll also want to make sure the place takes excellent care of their horses and stables, and most importantly, that your child and the horse are a fit. The human to horse relationship is a special thing that must be considered when learning to ride or enjoying riding a horse.
Here is a listing of places to go horse riding in Chiang Mai.
1. Second Wind Ranch and Rescue
We highly recommend Second Wind Ranch and Rescue because they are way more than just a ranch to ride horses in Chiang Mai.
Second Wind Ranch and Rescue is a family-run not for profit horse sanctuary based in Chiang Mai where they rescue, rehabilitate and re-home injured horses. Every time you ride with them, you are helping create a new career for racehorses who would have otherwise ended up in a horrible place. All of the horses have been rescued from local race tracks when they were no longer wanted.
You can see the rehabilitation process in action with a couple of the horses under care or with visible damages. The owners of the ranch have also empowered a young woman to run the ranch. Jennifer is her name and she might literally be a horse whisperer! She was absolutely amazing in making my daughter feel comfortable around a huge horse named King. The connection was quick between my daughter and King and Jennifer guided them to success.
After her ride, my daughter was taught how to wash down and groom a horse. She learned so much during her first horse riding lesson, it was incredible and she has been talking about going back every day since!
What the Second Wind Ranch and Rescue family is doing is a beautiful thing and they would love to get you involved in the rehabilitation process.
What activities do they offer and how much are horse riding lessons?
They offer trail rides along the foothills of a nearby national park for experienced riders at 900 baht per hour. Experienced riders are also welcome to saddle up for 500 baht an hour. For beginner horse riders Second Wind Ranch and Rescue offers one-on-one western riding lessons for 1,000 baht per hour or a very special program where if you bring a friend, it’s 1,500 baht for 2 riders for one hour.
There is also a package deal available for multiple lessons. However, their most popular program is called Cowboy Boot Camp where students learn both horse care and horse riding. Cowboy Boot Camp costs 7,000 baht and they request that you contact them for more details.

4. Laddaland Equestrian Club
This is one of the more serious horse riding clubs in Chiang Mai. Here the aim is to compete one day in equestrian shows and in horse show jumping. It appears that they may do a bit of dressage as well.
What activities do they offer and how much are horse riding lessons?
Laddaland Equestrian Club seems to keep their information very tight-lipped. They have no website or any other contacts than Facebook and email that I can find. It does say in an old article online that a yearly membership is required to ride here and I’m guessing that’s on top of hourly training and trainer fees.
Again, this stable is for the very serious rider who wants to get into competitive horse riding.
Please contact Laddaland Equestrian Club for much more detail.

6. Happy Kids @ Happy Horse Stables
Happy Horse Stables are by far the most beautiful and well designed stables we’ve seen and the place is run with love. It’s actually been around for more than a decade, but has only recently decided to open its doors to ride horses in Chiang Mai. Previously it was largely for horse boarding and for the owner’s growing collection of all kinds of horses.
Here you can find Friesian, Shetland ponies, miniature horses, and regular horses of various breeds. The majority of horses have been imported from overseas with plans to rehabilitate and rescue local horses as well.
What activities do they offer and how much are horse riding lessons?
At Happy Horse Stables you have a choice of pony ride lessons where you are lead around. Twenty minutes costs 300 baht and half an hour runs for 500 baht. After the riding you will also learn about horse care.
Private lessons are also offered at 700 baht for thirty minutes, or you can purchase the riding package for 3,200 baht for five lessons. Actual lessons will run for an hour as there will be 30 minutes tack and horse care time as well.
If you are looking for a stable to board your horse, then this is the place! You’ll need to inquire for exact pricing based on your needs.
Finally, they offer birthday packages! Come on out for a couple hours and enjoy some birthday pony fun! Contact Happy Horse Stables for exact pricing based on your birthday party needs.
