Family owned and run – Baanpong Lodge is a perfect staycation near Chiang Mai, or just come up for a swim at Baanpong Lodge swimming pool
Owned by a family with two children, Baanpong Lodge swimming pool is open to the public to come up for a day swim. Located in San Kampaeng about 45 minutes away from Chiang Mai, this resort and pool are the perfect family getaway from the city.
We always feel so welcome here with the relaxed vibe and open minded atmosphere and the kids love it!

The swimming pool
The pool is a nice size with a shallow (ish) end and a deep end perfect for jumping into. Because the water levels are rather deep, I’d say this pool is more for confident swimmers rather than beginners, however, if you will be in the water with them, then it shouldn’t be an issue!
Along the sides of the pool is a handy ledge that runs the entire inside edges of the pool which is can give swimmers confidence. We loved that feature for our toddler who is just gaining footing in the water. It made him feel comfortable and we felt so much more relaxed playing with him in the water.
Water floaties, dune buggies, a trampoline and bicycles
Baanpong Lodge has got pool noodles, balls, an Orca whale floaty and a giant tube to play with while you’re here. The kids will go nuts jumping into and onto these and into the water.
If your family is really up for an adventure, Baanpong Lodge also has dune buggies for rent! Not entirely sure where you would go with them, maybe a guide would go with you or maybe there’s a map of local trails to dune on (what’s the verb for driving a dune buggy anyways? Dune buggying? Duning?). Looks like fun though!
Also available are bicycles for adults and kids. With the area being absolutely gorgeous most of the year it is well worth taking a bike around to check it out. Just down the road from here, there’s a sunflower field to see and take those family selfies! Hopefully the sunflowers are in full bloom when you go.
At the far end of the parking lot near the entrance is where your kids will find the trampoline. It’s massive and can fit about 10 kids on it at once. Thankfully it’s in the shade so the kids won’t get too hot, but hey, they can always cool off by jumping back in the pool a short walk away! Due to its distance from the pool, one adult should go down with the kids to keep an eye on them as you can’t see it at all from the poolside.
Shade and seating
You want shade? You’ve got it! One of the reasons families with children like to come here is that all of the seating areas, including the poolside lounge chair area, have shade. Beside the restaurant there is a covered seating area and also across from the pool is another cabana style seating area with a sofa and reading nook.
Food and drink at Baanpong Lodge
Food
The menu offers a nice selection of western and Thai food at moderate to high prices, however everyone raves about the food! The Thai dishes are superior to the western ones and the staff are there for you – if you want not spicy, it will come out not spicy! As for the kids food, they have the usual fish and chips, chicken wings, French fries, etc. on offer.
Drink
Smoothies, coffees, teas, oh my! But the best part is their selection of imported beers and wine! The beer is even served from a keg! They’ve also got bottled craft, local and imported beers as well, and the wine is pretty good too.
Host a birthday party for kids or adults
Baanpong Lodge is also a great place to host a birthday party! They are happy to host any event actually, you just need to make a reservation in advance, and there is no booking fee. The only charge would be for anyone who wants to go swimming and for any food or drink you order.
Stay here for a family getaway just outside Chiang Mai
Bannpong Lodge is a great little place to stay at over a weekend or anytime really! It’s also a great option to stay at if you have a little bit too much fun by the poolside – always be safe and don’t drive if you don’t have to! Check out nightly rates on Agoda for Baanpong Lodge.
How to get to Baanpong Lodge?
The drive out to Baanpong takes between 45 minutes to an hour from the centre of Chiang Mai, so Grab is the easiest solution if you don’t have your own transportation or you could take a taxi.
If you plan to drive here and you’ve never been out this way before, you’ll want to turn on your GPS once you are outside the city. Just get yourself to the 1317, the San Kampaeng road, and drive straight.
Keep going past the San Kampaeng hospital and keep an eye out for signs for the Alpine Golf Course. You’ll take the left turn off towards the gold course and follow the signs for Baanpong Lodge from here!
