Meet the Tigers!
Chiang Mai’s football team (soccer team)
Chiang Mai Tigers Football Club are now in the Thai Premier League! This is a huge boost for the popular team who will now be representing Chiang Mai in a much more professional and high stakes competition.
Affectionately known as the CMFC, going to one of their games has always been a fantastic family experience. CMFC always aims to create a family friendly environment at the stadium and even has partnerships with local Chiang Mai schools. It’s common to see many school children in the stands!
Watching a game from the stadium is such a cultural experience. Thais and expats alike get so into each game; they dress up, paint their faces and dance! We certainly don’t have as much fun in the stands in Canada as they do here. There’s music, chanting, people playing instruments, and lots of cheering. Definitely bring ear plugs for little ones with sensitive ears!
Where can you watch the CMFC play?
The Chiang Mai Tigers play at the 700 Year Stadium north of the city up Canal Rd (121 Rd). The stadium holds 20,000 people and organizers are expecting each game’s attendance to be near capacity this year since being welcomed to join the Thai Premiere League.
If you can’t make it out to the stadium, make your way over to Promenada Mall. Outside in their very own stadium style seating, there will be a huge projector screen set up where you can watch every home and away game for free!
