Affordable and delicious cafe in the hills of the mountain in Chiang Mai
Nestled in the jungle in the foothills of Doi Suthep is this gem! Baan Suan Kafe is one of Chiang Mai’s top nature cafes and is one of the best restaurants with a playground in Chiang Mai. It’s located a short drive from Wat Doi Kham or Cup Fine Day (another great cafe with a playground) and is surrounded by jungle with a river running through it!
They serve great coffee and tea and really affordable meals – breakfast, lunch and early dinner.

Eat and play
Tucked away at the back of the restaurant is this simple but incredibly fun wooden playground! There’s a rope bridge, a slide and tunnels to crawl through.
There’s a seating area right next to it so you can keep an eye on the kids while they play. It doesn’t seem like much, but this playground will keep the kids easily entertained as their imaginations take over!
Family friendly nature cafe
Baan Suan Kafe is one of the best nature cafes in Chiang Mai. It’s safe, clean, and fun! The river swing is just one of the great features to enjoy!
Parents can sit right by the stream to make sure the kids are having fun and being safe. You can also dip your feet in if you’d like!
Bring an extra set of clothes for the kids, especially if you’ve got an adventurous little one like me! It’s always better to be prepared. The water is shallow and temperate most of the year, although the stream usually runs dry during hot/dry season from March to April.
Many families will come and enjoy Baan Suan Kafe for a couple hours. It’s just so relaxing! There are a few hammocks around to entice you to stay just a while longer at this great nature cafe in Chiang Mai.
Food and Drink
Food
Most of the food on the menu is mostly Thai style with the usual fair – khao pad, green curry, etc. They also have some western dishes like chicken wings or French fries for the kids. There is no kids menu, but there’s plenty on the menu they would chow down on, especially the desserts!
Family breakfast
We definitely recommend Baan Suan Kafe for a great family breakfast in Chiang Mai! You can enjoy amazing waffles or pancakes in the coolness of the morning jungle along with amazing tea of coffee.
Drinks
There are so many drinks to choose from! Tea, coffee, smoothies, Italian sodas, fresh juices, and more!
It’s a great place to get a massage too!
That’s right! Just behind the restaurant up in a little Thai style wooden house is a massage parlour! Mom or dad can get a massage while the rest of the family is eating, playing or relaxing. The massages start at 200 baht per hour and the usual massages – Thai, foot, back and shoulder massages – are available.
This truly is one of the top nature cafes in Chiang Mai!
How to get to Baan Suan Kafe
This lovely cafe is located about 5 minutes further down the road from the also great Cup Fine Day.
If you are from out of town or don’t have your own transport, then Grab or songtaew are the most convenient ways to get here for visitors to Chiang Mai, while for those who live here, it’s best to drive. There is some parking out front of the cafe but it gets full quickly!

Things to consider
There’s plenty to do nearby! Have a coffee and a play in the playground at Cup Fine Day . Right across from there, take a hike up to Wat Doi Kham. Drive a bit further and you’ll end up close to the Rabbit Union where you can meet and play with bunnies, or visit the Night Safari (which is actually open during the day too!). Also right next door to that is the Royal Park Rajapruek which is a fantastic garden park with an outdoor playground and bug world.
